Beyond the Therapy Room: Psychology for Organisations

When most people think of psychology, they picture the therapy room: a quiet space, one-to-one conversations, a focus on healing and growth. That’s certainly one part of the story. But over the past few years, I’ve found myself stepping into a very different kind of room: boardrooms, team meetings, leadership workshops, and strategy sessions.
Psychology isn’t just for individuals in distress. It’s a powerful tool for teams, leaders, and organisations striving to perform at their best, navigate change, or simply work together more effectively.
That’s where my organisational consulting work comes in.
What Is Organisational Consulting?
Organisational consulting brings psychological insight into the heart of business. It’s about understanding how people think, feel, and behave at work — and using that understanding to help teams thrive.
Some of the challenges I help with include:
Leadership development
Managing stress and preventing burnout
Enhancing team communication and collaboration
Supporting high performance in high-pressure environments
Building psychologically safe, inclusive cultures
Whether I’m working with a law firm, a cycling team, or a public-sector agency, my aim is the same: to bring clarity, emotional intelligence, and evidence-based insight to complex human systems.
Why It Matters
Organisations are full of people — brilliant, flawed, ambitious, anxious people. And often, what blocks performance isn’t lack of skill or strategy, but unspoken tensions, unclear communication, or outdated beliefs about how people "should" operate.
Psychological consulting offers something deeper than quick-fix solutions. It helps create environments where people want to show up, contribute, and grow.
From Clinical Work to Consulting
My background as a clinical psychologist gives me a unique lens on organisational life. I’ve spent years listening — really listening — to what people struggle with beneath the surface. That experience allows me to help organisations move beyond surface-level training and into genuine transformation.
It also means I’m used to working with complexity. I don’t bring a rigid "corporate coaching" model. I bring flexibility, depth, and a commitment to understanding what’s really going on.
